This blog contains experiences that I gain as I start on this new business venture called internet marketing. It contains after-thoughts as I used some of the internet marketing tools and I am sure it could save you time and do not have to go through the same path as I have gone through. Of course, make full use of the positive experiences that is contained in this blog. It would be good for newbie, i.e. those who just started out this area called internet marketing.

Surprised Bonus

Joel Comm is able to keep his customers excited by giving away bonus even after the purchase.

I was not very impressed at the eBook on Adsense that I read. I guess it's because I know quite a fair bit about Adsense.

I will also write about How I managed to save 50% off Joel Comm IAT.

I near lost my scores in Adwords

I nearly lose my score in Adwords just because of 1 keyword. I purchase a keyword called impromptu which is known to me as a report writer. There were a lot of impressions for the keyword but nobody clicked on my ad. I was very puzzled why nobody is interested in my ad. I have an above average click through for other words using the same ad. So I went to search the web using the keyword and was surprised to discovere that the keyword also have other meaning to other users. I immediately stopped advertising using the keyword. Why did I say losing my score in Adwords. If I don't get a good click through, Google will penalise me and that means the next time I set up another campaign, I would have to have to pay more per click because of my histroy here.

How do Google evaluate relevance

No matter how big google is, they are not the masters of all trade. So I suspect that their benchmarks of relevance comes from the websites that spidered. In fact, if the website has a high traffic and they talk about Excel, the keyword used in that page could become the criteria they used to evaluate other websites.

Google Sitemap

I went to Google sitemap to look at the details and this is what I found:

1) Google keep tracks on the position of the keywords from the various locations.
2) The position changes all the time. The average position is just an indication.
3) To find out more, you must download the query including the query for subfolders. THe option is "Download all query stats for this site (including subfolders)"
4) You will see the position of the website in the different google search engine in different coutnries.
5) Yet to find out how to rank high on a particular market.
6) my advanced Excel website still contains very little info about searches from Google because I am not in the radar yet. The reason being that the topic I am writing about is too generic. And the fact that I write in a different perspective make Google think that what I am writing is not relevant to Excel
7) It is difficult if not possible to track the position of the website in Google. If anyone claim that they can do SEO and make the website ranking in the top 10 position, they are doing for a specific market only. It also does not mean that you will get any traffic.
8) I am sure Google spider visit different country search engine with different time interval. This mean that US could be a well visited site while an ulu country will be visited less often. On the other hand, google may pay more visits to other countries more often because their are less website to visit.
9) In fact, now I see that page rank is not that important but rather links should have more relevance.
10) The conclusion. Website is for the mass market (or the world) because we do not know how the web page will turn out in different markets. It is a very tedious task to monitor ranking in different countires for a particular keyword.
11) The strategy should take into account country specific targets as well as keywords specific targets. The maturity of the searchers plays a important part in the search engine market.

Keyword tools

Wow! it's more than half a year since I posted something here. I thought I should pen this down and maybe write an ebook out of this.

1. Which keyword search tool to use? Word Tracker, Inventory overture, or Adwords
2. Adwords? Why?
3. Word tracker and inventory overture data are mostly american data. So unless you are targeting at americans, you should be careful when you use word tracker and inventory overture.
4. Google Adword is a good tool you can use to find out about the search results. When you use google adwords, you can find out how many people actually search for a particular word in a particular country. With that information, you can then identify whether it is worth it to write a page for a particular keyword.

Online Course

After talking about it for 6 months, I have finally put up my excel course on the web. It is published in www.business-excel-training-course.com. While I am writing this, I am uploaded the videos up to the web site. It's not free for your info. I am conducting classes on this and I am not going to put myself out of business. But it is free for those who have attended my excel training. It is the participants who have made this possible as the response to the classes grew over time.

www.business-excel-training-course.com is the second domain I have registered after I had some bad experience registering a domain name and buy some webhosting services from goDaddy. Details of the correspondence I had with their support department can be found here http://home1.pacific.net.sg/~anybody/goDaddy.html. It was only after I published the comments that I had my refund back. I am not sure how many people had suffered in the hands and just walked away. I was pretty angry with them and didn't want to publish the correspondence. All I want is for them to give my money back to me. But they didn't heed the advice. Too bad. Now I am using the website as an experienment to see how I can attract the search engine to the site. I have also made the effort to submit the site to the search engine.

So far I have had pretty good experience with Powweb. Their service is much better than goDaddy, I must say. The webhosting company is recommended by a friend who have registered with them. It is really cheap if you registered with them in April. You pay 1 year of web hosting services and get another year free. Usually, you can get only 6 months free when you subscribe with them for one year.

Time to go. I need to update my excel blog to inform my loyal readers about my latest venture.

Report on previous test on Sitesell

My experiment showed that the researched words does play a part in increasing traffic. It went up immediately after I change one of my page content to comply with certain keywords. See my previous post on my experiment on my website.

Then I also discover that page range on website plays a very important part in bringing new visiotrs. My traffic dropped recently because of my page rank in MSN dropped. I have not managed to get up to the first 30 page rank in google for my pages. That would definitely increase my traffic because Google still command more than 50% of the market. IF MSN get bring me about 30 over visitors a day, I am sure if I can get to the first 30 position in Google would multiply my traffic by 2 to 5 times.

For the next step, I have link my company website to advanced excel site. It should have a impact on my advanced excel page. I hope I will report the results to you soon.

Site Sell: Master keywords

Today, I was thinking about how I could increase my traffic and what is the next page that I should write. Then I decided to take a look at the demand for the key words to get some ideas. As I was looking at the keywords, I realised that a lot more people were searching excel formulas than excel functions. And then I come to realise that I should be using excel formulas to build the page instead of excel functions. Hopefully, this will increase my traffic. I will have to monitor the traffic to see if it works.

Site Sell: Subscribe to mailing list

Finally managed to set up the feature to collect emails for the mailing list. It was difficult for me because I didn't read day 6 of the action guide. It is about setting up the web pages. If you are new to html, I would recommend you read it.

It is actually very easy to set up and the forum helps me quite a fair bit. No need to set up complicated code like what I have to do for my business web site. But then, I have more complicated requirement for the website like monitor the response rate of the promotion or message. Great way to see who respond to which message and so on.
